History of Medical Marijuana in Indiana
As of 2023, “The Hoosier State” is one of only twelve (12) states with no effective medical cannabis law, as well as one of only nineteen (19) that still imposes jail time for simple possession of cannabis.
During the 2023 legislative session, numerous bills were introduced to not only legalize medical cannabis, but also to at least decriminalize possession of small amounts of cannabis. Unfortunately, the only bill to receive a committee hearing in the House was HB 1297, one of the decriminalization bills; however, it did not advance outside of the committee.
For those residing in Indiana, now is the time to contact your representatives and lawmakers to support an effective medical marijuana program to ensure patients are allowed access to their medicine.
