Oregon’s Health Authority Announces Psilocybin Fall Business Forum

On September 23rd, Oregon Psilocybin Services (“OPS”) announced their collaboration with the Secretary of State’s Office of Small Business Assistance to host an informative 2022 Psilocybin Fall Business Forum to give an overview of the much-anticipated Psilocybin Service Licenses.

All are welcome to join as this illuminating one-day event will be held virtually via Zoom with presentations offered by various state agency partners. On October 19th, 2022, the Forum will begin at 9:00 AM (Pacific Time) with a brief update on the implementation of Measure 109 and an overview of the resources provided by the Oregon Office of Small Business Assistance. Following, hosted alongside the Oregon Department of Revenue, department speakers will focus on how to navigate everything from local ordinances and land use to special tax challenges that apply to businesses operating in the murky waters of providing a federal Schedule I substance. Further, with the assistance of Oregon Bureau of Labor & Industries, Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Agency (“OSHA”), and the Department of Consumer and Business Services (“DCBS”), speakers will help audience members understand the complex employment and civil rights laws, along with essential employer resources provided by OSHA and DCBS.

After an hour lunch break, the Oregon Department of Human Services and the Oregon Higher Education Authority will provide an overview of not only what the background check process will look like, but also ways the Oregon Higher Education Coordinating Council (“HECC”) will enlist their resources to design an in-depth facilitator training program. For those interested in cultivating, preparing, or offering psilocybin testing services, the Oregon Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (“ORELAP”) will provide insight on how products will be tested, as well as how testing labs will be accredited. The Oregon Medical Marijuana Program (“OMMP”), along with the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission (“OLCC”) will discuss how those wishing to enter the psilocybin business world can gain insight from the lessons learned through implementing Oregon’s cannabis program. In the last session of the day ending at 3:50 PM (Pacific Time), the forum will supply those watching with more details on the rule-making process and what to expect in the months to come to get prepared for the license application process as applications will be accepted by the OPS by January 2, 2023.
